Hand drawn logo for Mad Hatter Fine English Tea. Client wanted something that was skewed, but not too wacky. I ended up doodling until I found a letter style I liked and then used my Wacom Intuos4 to draw it into Illustrator. The top and bottom designs are from an Illustrator brush pack.

Janus

Janus is the Roman god of beginnings and endings. This shirt shows the beginnings of things on the left and the ending of things on the right with the thread of life flowing through the design showing the spindle that begins life and the shears that end it. I thought muted colors looked best on this piece.

Furyous Omnibus 2009

Teefury is turning one and to celebrate they’ve asked for artists to send in variations of their birds — Teevil, T-Bird and Dead Bird. I’m thrilled that one of my designs is included on the shirt. It’s the hatching of baby Teevil. The shirt goes on sale tomorrow.

I had this design idea way back in last year and executed it in a pretty crappy way. I’ve finally had more time to work on it and improve the concept and the art. Cardinals make the perfect aerial medics. Now swoop and save the baby birdie!

Ugly Love – For Sale at RIPT

Ugly Love will be available for sale at RIPT Apparel this Thursday. It’s only up for 24 hours starting at 1 AM EST so don’t miss out. And it’s only $10.

Ugly Love is a piece of a larger project I was working on last year. The artwork is a vast departure from my normal style, but was purposely designed to be cutesy and effeminate due to the piece’s content. This part of the design works well on a shirt layout and still tells a simple message. The other part of the piece — where beautiful clouds are raining acid down upon a group of frolicking bunnies, searing flesh and slowly killing them — probably wouldn’t make that great of a shirt.

I realize this piece isn’t for everyone and there will be a strong like/dislike reaction to it, but I’m very grateful to RIPT for taking a chance on it and am happy to be part of their designer family.

United Monotremia

There are only two mammals that lay eggs. They are the platypus and echidna. Together they are called monotremes. And if they ever mutated into smarter creatures it’s likely they’d create a federated nation called United Monotremia. This would be their crest. I swear.

The Whale That Always Sleeps

I’ve been out of the game for a long, long time. There’s a good reason — it’s called ulnar neurosis — but I’m trying to get back into designing. So here’s a design that I worked on today. I’ve had the design bouncing around in my head for a while, so it was nice to finally get it out. Still going back-and-forth with the art edges, but I like it for the most part.

The Taming of the Shrew

You know when someone takes a series of words and then creates a visual that is another meaning for those series of words? Yeah, cool. Here’s The Taming of the Shrew. I’ve never read the book, or seen any of the movie versions, but I imagine Shakespeare was like Luke Perry in 8 Seconds. Or like that dude that married Jewel.
